ALACHUA, FL---The Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA) announced that Tom MacDonald, CVPM, commenced his term as President of the VHMA Board of Directors during the Association’s 2011 Annual Membership Meeting in October. MacDonald’s term runs from 2011-2013. A VHMA member since 2001, MacDonald has played an active role in the Association serving on the VHMA Board as Canadian Director from 2004-09, and Vice-President 2009-11. He chairs the VHMA Ethics Committee and is involved in the Association’s mentoring program.

VHMA Welcomes MacDonald

For close to 15 years, MacDonald has worked in the veterinary field. He is the co-founder of Lincoln Village Animal Hospital, the first AAHA accredited hospital in Waterloo, ON. In 2006, he assisted in creating the Ontario Veterinary Managers Group.

MacDonald graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Ontario’s University of Guelph. While working as an investment representative and an equity and options trader, he continued to study human resources and small business management at Seneca College in Toronto. His unique combination of skills prepared him to establish a companion animal hospital, a joint venture he undertook with his wife who is a veterinarian. MacDonald played a major role in formulating the design and service concept of their hospital.

In 2002, he completed AAHA’s Veterinary Management Institute (Purdue University, Krannert Graduate School of Management) certificate program. He obtained the designation of Certified Veterinary Practice Manager in 2007.

In addition to his membership with VHMA, MacDonald is also a member of the AAHA and the OVMA.

“Tom has such a strong background in finance and veterinary practice management and we look forward to working with him as president and continuing the exciting and transformative work of the Association,” said Executive Director Christine Q. Shupe.
