Reno, Nev. - The Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA) honored Dr. Peter Weinstein, DVM, MBA, as the recipient of its 2026 VHMA President's Award at the annual conference in Reno, Nevada. This distinguished award celebrates VHMA members who enact positive change and significantly bolster the association's standing within the veterinary community.

A member since 1991, Weinstein originally joined the VHMA around the same time he opened his first veterinary hospital. Over the following three decades, he served as a frequent speaker, facilitator, and passionate member of the organization.

"VHMA is one of the most well-run, professional organizations that I have been a part of," said Weinstein. "The information that comes out, the education that’s provided, the resources and support that come from the office are all world-class."

Weinstein's passion for animal care began at age 15 while working as a kennel assistant, and he went on to build a career as a veterinarian, educator, and entrepreneur. As a veterinarian, Weinstein became a strong supporter of VHMA's CVPM program.

"I truly believe that veterinarians are best served by teaming up with a great manager, preferably a CVPM," he said.

Weinstein operated three small businesses: Simple Solutions for Vets, PAW Consulting, and Veterinary Ownership Advocates. He also served as president of Southern California VMA, the California VMA, and VetPartners.

Beyond his business ventures, Weinstein has dedicated much of his life to education, sharing his knowledge by teaching business and finance at the Veterinary College of Western University of Health Sciences. For Weinstein, the real reward for his academic and professional pursuits is the opportunity to guide others.

"I love seeing their long-term success as they create a career that they're happy with and that they're contributing to the profession," he said.

On top of that, Weinstein has authored "The EMyth Veterinarian-Why Most Veterinary Practices Don't Work and What to Do About It" and continues to write regularly for "Today's Veterinary Business."

Weinstein's career has been supported by his animal-loving family, including his wife, a zookeeper, and his youngest daughter, a second-generation veterinarian. His oldest daughter graduated with a degree in business, and the family was completed by their pandemic rescue dog, Bruce.

"When you have a family of animal people, it's very supportive in the addiction that I have of speaking, writing, and helping others," Weinstein shared.

He earned a BS in Biology from Cornell University, a DVM from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and an MBA from the University of Redlands.
Ultimately, the 2026 President's Award celebrated Weinstein not just for his professional achievements but for his character as a leader, mentor, and friend.
