Practice Manager, Referee, Psychologist

When the 2016 VHMA Management Exchange rolled out a collection of Scary but True Practice Stories, attendees had a chance to get the inside scoop on the perplexing--but not uncommon--workplace issues that managers address. Each month one video from the collection has been featured. In this issue Johana Beresky, MBA, CVPM, discusses When Personalities Clash.

At times, staff may get along swimmingly, but occasionally team members may be as compatible as oil and water. In Johana’s practice her employees’ disdain for one another was so acute that the negativity impacted the entire team. Knowing that she had to take action, Johana put on her referee’s shirt and donned her psychologist’s cap to ameliorate the unpleasantness and help the embittered parties achieve detente.

Johanna’s approach helped to get the team on a more even keel. She discusses her strategy and offers suggestions for identifying personality issues before they become problematic.
