Add Value to Your Resume BookThe Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA) is pleased to announce that members can now receive continuing education credits at no charge when they complete the Partners for Healthy Pets (PHP) Preventive Healthcare Certificate Program. According to the Certified Veterinary Practice Manager’s (CVPM) Certification Board, managers who complete the certificate program can now apply nine (9) continuing education credits toward the CVPM certification program requirements. RACE credits are available.

Preventive healthcare has been shown to be instrumental in improving the well-being of patients, forging better relationships between veterinary professionals and clients, and having a positive impact on staff and the practice. Understanding how to expertly and effectively introduce and implement preventive healthcare is comprehensively addressed in the Preventive Healthcare Certificate Program.

The program incorporates 10 modules, each taking approximately one-hour to complete. The modules examine specific topics and explore the role they play in improving client compliance and enhancing the level and quality of patient care.

Among the topics highlighted are: opportunity surveys to identify unmet needs, guidance in implementing preventive healthcare guidelines, an overview of budget-friendly pet wellness plans, strategies for building a powerful online presence using internet marketing and social media, approaches to improve communication, the essentials for creating a Feline Friendly Practice and a summary of resources available to support preventive healthcare.

A certificate is issued after all modules are successfully completed. Participants must attain a 90% on the quizzes administered at the conclusion of each module.

“The Preventive Healthcare Certificate Program is an important step for managers who want to add to their repertoire of skills and take on more leadership responsibilities. The free continuing education credits are a powerful incentive for managers to take advantage of this educational opportunity,” said VHMA Executive Director Christine Shupe, CAE.

Several years ago, VHMA and PHP teamed up to produce a practical guide to help veterinary professionals become preventive healthcare practice champions. The guide, Preventive Pet Healthcare: Your guide to becoming a PRACTICE CHAMPION, is widely regarded by veterinary management professionals who have implemented the protocols to usher in changes that have had positive impacts on patients, clients, staff and practices.

“PHP is excited to offer this benefit to VHMA members. VHMA has been an enthusiastic advocate of preventive pet healthcare and we hope that this incentive will encourage even more veterinary management professionals to commit to preventive pet healthcare,” said Co-Chairs for PHP David E. Granstrom, DVM, PhD, DACVM (parasitology), AVMA Assistant Executive Vice President and Chief Accreditation and Certification Officer for AVMA, and Janice Trumpeter, DVM, Deputy Chief Executive Officer for AAHA.
