Alachua, Fl. – The Veterinary Hospital Manager Association (VHMA) is pleased to announce that the recipient of its 2023 President’s Award is Dr. Karen E. Felsted, CPA, MS, DVM, CVPM, CVA. This prestigious annual award celebrates members who have effected positive change and enhanced the standing of the association. The award was announced at VHMA’s Annual Conference - Connect & Collaborate held in Glendale, Arizona in September.

It’s nice to be recognized for what you do and particularly by an organization that I value so much,” said Felsted, Founder and President of PantheraT Veterinary Management Consulting. “I think VHMA is a truly tremendous group. It has amazing leadership, a dedicated membership and has spent so much time and effort on really interesting projects that impact the profession a great deal.”

Felsted has been a member of the VHMA for more than 20 years, and currently writes “Insiders’ Insights” each month, providing trends and data points that are currently impacting the veterinary industry.

“I love seeing the data; it's always interesting to me,” said Felsted. “I've really enjoyed being able to see the trends and how things have changed on a monthly basis.”

Felsted has also been involved in vital pricing projects for veterinary medicine. One of her fondest memories was earning her CVPM, she later served on the CVPM Board for many years.

Her career has taken her in many different directions. Felsted graduated from Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and then worked as a small animal veterinarian. She consulted on the side and later transitioned to full-time management and consulting. Prior to working in the veterinary management and medicine industries, Felsted worked in accounting, which is where her love for data and numbers comes from. After graduating from the University of Texas, Felsted started her career as a CPA at Ernst & Young.

bounced around a little bit, and tried some different things before I ended up doing what I'm doing now. And for me, I found the perfect environment. I like having my own company. It certainly has its challenges at times, but I love the variety of the work and being able to dictate what it is that I want to do,” said Felsted.

For anyone first entering the industry, she advises, “Find your home, find your passion, and find a place that works for you
