Paul Jensen, CVPM
Paul Jensen has been the Executive Director of Affiliated Emergency Veterinary Service (AEVS) in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area of Minnesota for over seven years. AEVS has provided urgent, emergency, and critical care services in support of its referring veterinary hospitals since 1979. Paul functions as Chief Operating Officer overseeing six full service emergency hospitals across the state of Minnesota with over 100 employees, 91 shareholders, and hundreds of referring veterinarians.
“I’d like to say that I have been working in the veterinary field forever, starting out cleaning kennels, etc. since I was young, but that has not been the path that has led me here. Prior to joining AEVS, I served many years in a leadership role in human health care, primarily overseeing the development and operations of long term care facilities. I jumped at the opportunity to enter the veterinary field because of my life long love of dogs and cats and my desire to help distressed animals receive the best treatment and care available. I’m particularly drawn to the emergency side of veterinary medicine because of its unpredictable and often intense nature. Also, joining AEVS gave me a chance to apply my knowledge and experience with organizational development, strategic planning, human resources, quality assurance, and facilities management to a growing organization. Assembling a group of bright, compassionate and highly motivated team members whose focus on providing consistently high levels of patient care and outstanding customer service have been key to our success, and I am honored to be part of it.
I pursued the Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) designation to get a deeper understanding and appreciation of what it takes to be an effective manager in the veterinary field and I earned the distinction in June of 2007. Being a CVPM has helped me feel much more connected with our profession. I enjoy the contact, networking, and resource sharing across our region by accessing our local managers’ groups, and on the national level by way of industry webcasts and attending conferences such as the VHMA meetings. And although coming in from outside the veterinary industry has been challenging, I believe leading staff with respect, common sense and humor, along with employing sound business techniques can be translated successfully to any field.”
Paul enjoys spending his free time with his wife, three children, dog, and cat.
