Program Details

SESSION 1 - FORMULAS AND SHORTCUTS (3 hours)

How to Use Excel Properly

  • Why Excel becomes a mess. And how to avoid it.
  • Why your computer setup sucks and how to easily fix it
  • Getting your slow computer under control
  • A few life-or-death shortcuts to help you end clumsiness.
  • When to use and NOT use the mouse
  • How to set up a new spreadsheet without getting overwhelmed.
  • Formatting text, numbers, money, and dates.
  • Getting the messy lines, grids, colors, and formats under control

The right way to use formulas

  • Setting up formulas that make sense
  • Understanding relative vs absolute formulas
  • Naming cells so they're easier to reference
  • Doing simple calculations with money, dates, and time
  • Setting up a simple spreadsheet to track your business metrics

SESSION 2 - ANALYZING YOUR DATA WITH IF, VLOOPUP AND PIVOT TABLES (3 hours)

Working with data

  • How to work with big datasets without getting flustered
  • The right way to filter and sort data without messing it up
  • Creating a simple template for your data to avoid building the same formulas every week
  • Fixing problems with the data with simple text functions
  • IF FUNCTIONS - Excel becomes powerful when the formulas can make decisions for you
  • VLOOKUP - It's so powerful and yet almost can do it. Once you see how easy it is you'll laugh.
  • How to handle data that keeps "growing"

Putting it all together

  • Using PIVOT TABLES to summarize your data
  • Using SUMIF and COUNTIF formulas to aggregate your data
  • Using graphs and charts to present your data
  • Getting everything to actually print properly!
  • Understanding the Big Picture and how to think about Spreadsheet Design
  • What to do with all of your new free time now that you're no longer fixing garbage spreadsheets

Continuing Education Hours

A total of 6 continuing education credit hours are available to participants. Attendance is taken at each live session. The total hours awarded are reflective of the live sessions attended. Continuing education hours awarded for this program can be applied to the CVPM program's continuing education requirement.

Although attendance is not mandatory, participation in both sessions ensures that participants get the most from the program. Sessions will be recorded. Recordings will be accessible to program participants after each session. Continuing education credit is not awarded for viewing recorded sessions.

Each virtual workshop is presented in two (2) - three (3) hour sessions (2:00 to 5:00 pm ET). Registration closed by 5:00 p.m. ET the day before the first class.

Participation is limited per session. 

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made in writing up to one hour before the program starts will be fully refunded. Cancellations made later are not eligible for a refund.  

What You Need

A PC or Mac with Zoom and Microsoft Excel installed. A mouse with a scroll wheel is strongly recommended.

We will provide notes that can be downloaded after class

Participation

Questions are welcome. We'll also have several hands-on exercises to do during class.

Recording

Will be available after class so you can review the material and exercises.

Instructor

Michael D. Zumchak
After escaping Wall Street, Michael designed one of New York's most coveted Excel training programs. Michael has trained over 50,000 students for clients, including Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Cole Haan, Kate Spade, Royal Bank of Canada, TripAdvisor,  Spotify, and SoulCycle.
 
Michael's teaching style is highly unconventionally entertaining and may induce learning. He is a published co-author in the scientific Journal of Visualized Experimentation and holds a bachelor's degree from NYU.

Ed Blach (DVM, MS, MBA) is a co-founder of Ask.Vet, the leading telehealth innovator in the pet care market. He co-invented the FLAIR(R) nasal strip to protect the lungs of competing horses. He is the former CEO of the largest equine hospital in the world, Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, KY. 
 
Dr. Blach built Ismypracticehealthy.com as a concise resource to teach veterinarians how to grow their practices, improve profitability, and enhance enterprise value. He mentored the owners of more than 150 veterinary practices, helping grow their collective enterprise value from approximately $300,000,000 to more than $3.0 billion over ten years. 
 
After seeing him work a keyboard like a concert pianist, Ed was fortunate to meet "Excel Mike" at La Guardia airport in New York. Even after 12 years of college, Mike is still the best teacher Dr. Blach has ever experienced.  He's seen the impact of Mike's work on the practice owners and managers he has worked with over the past ten years.
