Legally Addressing Employee Discipline

Guest Speaker: Jodie-Beth Galos, Esq., SPHR

Progressive discipline is critical in changing poor performers, and this course focuses on how to perform progressive discipline properly, and fairly. Attendees will learn the steps needed to address unacceptable performance issues within your practice. If the employees’ performance is not improving, learn how to terminate an employee properly, professionally, and most importantly legally.

     TRACK 2

Monitoring Practice Profitability

Guest Speakers: David McCormick, MS and Leslie Mamalis, MBA, MSIT, CVA

This program will present tools and concepts to help managers estimate their "true profitability," regardless of their legal form of organization. Knowing how a practice's profitability compares with others is only the first step: the real challenge is to maintain the delivery of quality medicine, provide excellent client service, and also give the owners a reasonable return on their investment. Managers play an important role in this process; this workshop will focus on aspects of practice valuation and specific areas that provide attendees with a starting point to make changes for the improved profitability and a way to monitor the progress.

     TRACK 3

The Future of Emergency and Referral Veterinary Practice

Guest Speaker: Anthony J. DeCarlo, VMD

Veterinary medicine is a profession in rapid change right now. The economy, politics, staff/customer expectations, supply and demand, and technology (just to name a few) all have an impact on how we conduct business. In order to remain successful, keen practice managers need to know how to recognize environmental changes and must adapt quickly.

Emergency and referral practice is particularly impacted as these practices offer unique services, and have specific needs. As a founding partner, and CEO of the Red Bank Veterinary Hospital Healthcare Network, the industry's largest private hospital network consisting of 24-hour emergency, critical care and specialty hospitals, Dr. DeCarlo has successfully navigated the industry’s changing demands to celebrate 27 years in veterinary care.

This presentation will be a frank discussion, a "reality check" if you will, on the current state of veterinary profession, and what the future looks like for emergency and referral practices. The program will include an interactive component where all participants are encouraged to participate in discussion and forecasting the future.

Behavior-Based Employment Interviewing

Guest Speaker: Jodie-Beth Galos, Esq., SPHR

All of your candidates look qualified on paper so how do you choose the correct one? Behavior-based interviewing can help you pick the person who’s the best job fit. Instead of relying on your gut instinct, use this structured, job-specific, organization-specific approach to gather the information you really need and pinpoint the most appropriate candidate.

With a little preparation up front, you’ll be armed to spot red flags, determine applicants’ skill and will to do the job, use the telephone to cut your time investment, avoid potentially damaging questions and ask behavior-based questions instead, get candidates to open up and reveal who they really are, and use all your data to make a good job placement decision.

This program will provide you with the tools to determine how a person is likely to act on the job based on their motivation so you can avoid costly hiring mistakes.
