Kim Hettinga

Vice President

Kim Hettinga-Moore, BSN, CVPM (Seattle, WA)

Kim's passion for the veterinary industry began when she worked at a small animal hospital in Seattle while earning her BS in Nursing from the University of Washington. This experience fueled her excitement for education, leadership, strategic planning, mentoring, working with diverse teams, and promoting the success of individual team members. After becoming a VHMA member in 2000, she realized the endless opportunities for personal and professional development in veterinary medicine.

As the Hospital Administrator of AAHA-accredited Elliott Bay Animal Hospital in Seattle, where she worked for 26 years, her leadership contributed to their growth from a one-and-a-half DVM hospital to an 8-DVM, 40+ team member practice. In 2018, Elliott Bay Animal Hospital was awarded the Readers' Choice Poll Winner as the Best Veterinary Practice in Seattle.

In 2021, Kim was thrilled to be invited to join a local, growing practice in South Seattle. She worked alongside two highly respected owners, one of whom previously served 12 years on the VHMA Board of Directors and continues to be an active member of the VHMA. In this practice, she was challenged and encouraged to continue her personal and professional growth. Kim will always feel fondness, warmth, and deep appreciation for her experience working with this team.

Kim's enthusiasm and involvement with the VHMA encouraged her to earn her Certificate in Veterinary Practice Administration from Purdue University in 2001. She earned Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) certification in 2006. This continues to be one of her accomplishments, of which she is the proudest. For three years, she volunteered by serving on the ACE committee for the AAHA to develop management continuing education programs. In addition, she has volunteered and supported the VHMA on the Education and Programming Advisory Group and has served as Director, Secretary, and Treasurer on the VHMA Board of Directors since 2019.

In May 2023, Kim joined Timberline Veterinary Emergency and Specialty as the Hospital Administrator for the founding team. Due to rapid growth, she has transitioned to the Director of People and Development. This practice is a local, privately owned, 24/7 Emergency and Critical Care Hospital that provides much-needed emergency care to patients throughout the greater Seattle area.

Kim is eternally grateful for the benefits of being a member of the VHMA. She is delighted to continue sharing her passion, experience, and energy to give back to our association!

Jacobs

Treasurer

Kim Jacobs, CVPM, CCFP (Hickory Creek, TX)

Kim's career in veterinary management began as a happy accident. After 13 years in retail leadership, she came across a help-wanted ad for a local veterinary clinic and was ready for a new challenge. With 24 years in the veterinary industry, Kim reflects on those early days as the clinic's only employee—wearing every hat from receptionist to technician assistant and gaining hands-on experience in every aspect of the practice. In 2004, she was promoted to Practice Manager, and everything clicked. Under her leadership and with the support of a forward-thinking practice owner, the clinic has grown into a four-doctor, seventeen-staff hospital. Her innovative mindset included a staff daycare in the new hospital she helped design.

Kim joined the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA) in 2007 and was immediately inspired by its education and sense of community, thinking, "These are my people!" She earned her Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) credential in 2010 and set a goal to empower and uplift fellow managers across the profession.

Kim's passion for the field led her to volunteer with the VHMA Ethics Committee in 2014, where she was appointed Chair in 2019. Since 2021, she has served on the VHMA Board as Director and Secretary. Outside of VHMA, Kim became certified in Compassion Fatigue in 2020 and co-moderates an online peer support group for veterinary professionals facing burnout—an initiative driven by empathy and a deep commitment to colleague well-being. She is one of the founders of the Denton County Veterinary Practice Managers Group, a local network of practice managers dedicated to sharing knowledge, building connections, and supporting one another in leadership. Kim looks forward to continuing her service on the VHMA Board and giving back to the profession that has shaped her journey.
