The Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA) has taken the Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) credential to a new level with digital badging. The CVPM digital badge carries information about the accomplishments and skills associated with the credential. The badge, which is displayed online, can be easily accessed by those who are interested in learning more about the individual and the credential.

The digital badge contains meta-data that communicates the significance of the credential, the process involved in earning it, and the specialized expertise that those who hold it possess. The badge’s platform allows for it to be displayed on websites, social media pages, resumes and more.

“The digital badge will transform the way veterinary professionals communicate their accomplishments to other professionals, those in the industry, and the public. By simply clicking on the badge, which CVPMs are encouraged to display to enhance their professional profiles, others can learn about the standards and criteria that were met to earn the credential,” said Christine Shupe, VHMA Executive Director.

About the CVPM

CVPM certification is a program that qualifies the knowledge and experience necessary to successfully manage the ever-changing business management of the veterinary practice. Among veterinary practice leaders, the CVPM designation is known and appreciated as the highest level of credential for a professional veterinary manager. To apply for certification, an individual must meet four qualifications:

  • Active employment as a practice manager for a minimum of three years
  • Eighteen college semester hours in management related courses
  • Forty-eight hours of CE courses, seminars, etc., specifically devoted to management
  • Four letters of recommendation

The CVPM examination is composed of questions about management knowledge in Human Resources, Law and Ethics, Marketing, Organization of the Practice, and Finance. CVPMs must recertify every two years.
