We are excited that our second set of regional meetings across the country have just launched, Controlling the Chaos in Your Practice. Dr. Peter Weinstein co-author of The E-Myth Veterinarian, Why Most Veterinary Practice Don’t Work and What to Do About It will be facilitating the full-day workshop offered five more times this year; look for a location near you (Toronto, Baltimore, Kansas City, Indianapolis and San Diego). The E-Myth Veterinarian introduces us to the concept of working on your business rather than in it. We as administrators and leaders deal with this challenge every day. Our job as managers is to fulfill the owner’s mission by ensuring that the business is strategically running to meet its goals. Often times because we lack processes and systems we get caught up in urgent matters that end up taking up the majority of our time. Unfortunately, I too find myself failing in this area at times. Whether we have been managing for 20 years or 20 weeks this is a problem we all have to tackle. To get over this hurdle we need to be conscious enough to take inventory of where our time is been spent to ensure the appropriate balance. When we find ourselves spending too much time in the business – it is time to reevaluate the systems we have in place. Take a few moments this week, determine where you are spending your time it might turned out to be the most productive couple of minutes of the week.
If you are unable to attend one of the Regional Workshops with Dr. Weinstein be sure to at least pick up the book and read it. I assure you it will change your entire outlook on how you manage your business.
