Learning Keeps You Young!

Dear Friends,

It’s February, and my calendar for the remainder of the year is filling up. Between VHMA meetings and workshops and other industry events, I look forward to recharging my professional batteries, expanding my way of thinking, mixing and mingling with colleagues, and having fun.

As an industry veteran, I can honestly say that every conference, meeting, or workshop I participate in exposes me to new people, new concepts, or new ways of doing business. When I leave a meeting, I am connected to other managers, excited about new content, and inspired to apply what I’ve learned. If you are not exploring the meeting options offered through VHMA, I encourage you to do so.

We are overscheduled and overcommitted. Trying to squeeze in another event may be challenging, but I feel strongly that attending these events is well worth the time and effort. The benefits are numerous:

  1. When surrounded by colleagues and involved in sessions, there are ample opportunities to request feedback and ask questions about issues you are dealing with in the practice. Whether you engage with others in formal sessions or informal gatherings, the responses you receive can help to stretch your thinking and lead to more innovative solutions.
  2. You’ll get to know new people in the field. I look forward to industry meetings because I can connect with colleagues. I also enjoy meeting new members face-to-face.
  3. You will have access to information that is at the forefront of practice management. VHMA strives to be on the cutting edge. Keynote and session speakers are innovators and pioneers whose work is driving change. We can all benefit by having access to the latest and greatest information and the next big thing.
  4. For managers interested in refining their presentation and communication skills, these meetings can offer opportunities for them to enhance their delivery, expand their visibility, and advance their careers.
  5. While content is first-rate, interesting conference locations and entertaining extracurricular activities encourage participants to interact in casual, relaxed settings that help to nurture relationships.
  6. Because prominent thinkers and industry leaders are featured presenters at these events, participants have a unique opportunity to interact with these industry influencers.
  7. You can pay it back. Once the conference concludes, and you return to the practice, sharing what you’ve learned with others allows you to reinforce content and share your new-found expertise with coworkers.

  • VHMA Regional Meetings offered on four dates in different locations, the focus this year is on Value-Based Pricing Strategies and Tools.
  • VHMA Mastermind Groups, organized around live, online meetings to discuss issues that are important to practice managers, such as finance and inventory.
  • The 2020 VHMA Annual Meeting and Conference, Think. Believe. Dream. Do.

Henry Ford once said, “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young.”

Resolve to stay young, my friends!
