Each year, the VitusVet-CVPM Scholarship is awarded to one candidate who meets the stringent award criteria and is interested in obtaining the highly respected Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) credential to enhance and promote professional growth. Sarah Small, a practice manager at Colony Animal Clinic in Fairhope, AL, has been named this year’s recipient. She has worked in the veterinary field since 2012 in both small and large animal practices.

As part of the application, candidates were required to submit an article describing an innovation they either launched or planned to launch to benefit the practice and the team. According to Evan Hannscott, Digital Marketing Director, VitusVet, “Sarah’s essay was unanimously selected for its overall message. The review board felt that she clearly detailed a viable response to an issue many practices face today…communicating with clients.” Small focused on how she worked with her team to adapt client communications and make them more responsive to a technology-driven world.

“Sarah embodies the motivation, competency, and innovation, that characterize CVPMs. We look forward to seeing how her commitment to excellence in practice management will impact her career, her practice, and the profession,” said VHMA Executive Director Christine Shupe.

About the scholarship

The scholarship program was created through a collaboration between VitusVet and the VHMA to provide a deserving candidate with an opportunity to obtain the CVPM credential—the highest level of certification a veterinary practice management professional can achieve. Recipients receive:

  • $1,000 cash toward the purchase of publications on the CVPM recommended reading list
  • A complimentary VHMA membership

To be eligible for consideration, candidates must have been actively employed as a practice manager for a minimum of three years, earned 18 college credits in management related courses and 48 hours of CE devoted to management, provide four letters of recommendations, and submit an article to VitusVet.
