A mastermind group is a dedicated group of professionals that meet regularly to discuss issues important to them. VHMA peer-to-peer Mastermind Groups are typically led by a thought leader who moderates discussions and facilities organization of the group.
VHMA Inventory Mastermind Groups are facilitated by Nicole Clausen, CSSGB – an Inventory thought leader/speaker/author. The program will focus on essential Inventory management knowledge and skills, which will be tailored to the extent possible based on course participant experiential and prior educational history.
VHMA Inventory Groups run for a six-month term and meet live online for 90 minutes each month.
Each meeting will include: a reading assignment to help prepare participants in advance of the online facilitated session; instructor presentation of prepared content on selected veterinary practice inventory management issues interspersed with group Q & A; and tools and resources specific to the monthly topic. Participants are expected to contribute problems, solutions, war-stories, and best tips to help their colleagues and keep a lively discussion going, during the sessions as well as in the private forum between sessions.
VHMA's Inventory Mastermind group members belong to a private community within VHMA's MemberConnect to communicate and share resources throughout the six-month term. This online community will be available only to course registrants and the instructors. Once the course closes, the instructors will cease monitoring and interacting in the online community.
Participation in the group will allow members to:
- Learn and apply fundamental inventory management principles
- Access an inventory professional who works exclusively with veterinary practices
- Acquire templates and resources that support policy and procedure
- Improve practice systems and internal controls
- Learn best practices and pitfalls through interactions with other VHMA professionals who have experienced the same issues
- Receive advice on how to accomplish more efficient and effective practice operations

CE Credits
1.5 CVPM continuing education credits will be available monthly (9 continuing education hours for the full program). Attendance will be taken at each meeting.
Agenda
The Course Topic Agenda is as follows, and the level of teaching will be tempered to the group participants’ experience and education:
- Setting inventory goals
- Getting a system under control: where to begin an investigation
- How much to order and how often: Indirect Costs
- Using the PIMS and your team to help manage inventory
- Budgeting
- Value of stock on hand; calculating turnover
Participants should have access to the inventory module in their practice management system and know what their current cost of goods as a percentage of revenue is.
