January 14, 2026…The most successful veterinary practices are those where individuals in leadership positions work successfully as a team. A new resource from Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA) is making that goal of fostering and strengthening workplace relationships more attainable.
This month, VHMA released the Leadership Through Partnership Workbook, a practical, hands-on resource designed to help veterinary leaders strengthen collaboration, communication, and trust within their practices.
Created specifically for practice owners, managers, and leadership teams, the downloadable workbook provides structured activities that improve communication styles, clarify roles, build workplace autonomy, and strengthen delegation skills. The result: more aligned leadership, higher staff morale, and better outcomes for teams, clients, and patients.
Teams within the same veterinary practice can move through the exercises during scheduled leadership meetings, retreats, or monthly check-ins, using the guided discussions to address challenges they are experiencing. Practices can choose to complete the workbook in a single intensive session or spread it out over time, allowing leaders to apply what they learn immediately and revisit key concepts as their team grows and evolves.
Eight focused chapters in the workbook help build stronger partnerships step by step—starting with identifying individual communication styles and motivation drivers, then moving into clarifying roles and responsibilities, assessing workplace autonomy, and strengthening delegation practices. From there, leaders explore strategies for building healthy professional relationships, conduct relationship gap analysis to pinpoint opportunities for growth. The chapters create a practical roadmap for improving collaboration, trust, and leadership effectiveness across the practice.
The Leadership Through Partnership workbook is free to VHMA members and can be downloaded by nonmembers for $49. To learn more, visit www.vhma.org/leadership-through-partnership-workbook.
