Not a thank you in sight - manager burn out

Not long ago I was at a national conference of veterinary practice managers. I was fortunate to spend time with some of the best and brightest in our profession. One interesting common denominator I heard among many newer managers, was that they feel taken for granted and unappreciated professionally. The cold, hard truth of management; often times, practice managers are the last team member to be praised, recognized or celebrated. That doesn’t mean we cannot feel validated, rewarded and accomplished. It just means we need to have realistic expectations of how that happens.

I love this! Being a manager at a veterinary hospital is a strange experience, especially because I don't directly work with animals. (I know some managers are also vet techs, etc.) I used to feel like my staff had no clue what I did all day in my office. It's better now, as I try to really share updates on what I'm up to with them, just like I check in with them about our patients. Thanks for posting. :)
